SMS Communications
Canary uses SMS messaging solely to deliver transactional safety-related alerts. The following terms govern our SMS communications:
Messages are sent only when triggered by user activity (e.g., a missed safety check-in or a manually triggered emergency alert)
Recipients are individually designated by the app user and are typically friends or family members
When first added as a trusted contact, recipients will receive a one-time informational SMS explaining the nature of Canary alerts and how to opt out
Message frequency varies based on user activity
Message and data rates may apply
To opt out of messages at any time, reply STOP
To receive help, reply HELP
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose mobile phone numbers — yours or those of your designated contacts — to any third party for marketing or any other commercial purpose.
Consent
Users are responsible for obtaining consent from any individuals they designate as trusted contacts prior to adding them in the app. During setup, users are explicitly prompted to confirm that each contact has agreed to receive safety alerts before being added.
By being added as a trusted contact, the recipient acknowledges that they have agreed to receive SMS messages related to the user's safety status. Recipients may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message.
Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information — including mobile phone numbers — with third parties for marketing or commercial purposes.
We may share information only:
As necessary to deliver SMS messages (e.g., through our SMS service provider, Twilio)
If required by applicable law or valid legal process
Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
